FREE License Plate Replacement Event – Perry County

Plates that have: lost reflectivity, are peeling, blistering, or are discolored, and/or are unreadable from 50 feet away are eligible for FREE replacement. Stop by any of these events to have your plate checked and have all necessary paperwork completed. There is no fee for this service. Once processed by PennDOT, replacement plates can be picked up at one of my offices or mailed directly to the applicant(s). Contact 717-582-2454 with any questions.

Registration for the event is recommended, in case of event updates, but it is not required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I expect at this event?

A: This is a first-come, first-served drive-thru event. Attendees will be queued in a line. Staff will provide the PennDOT form MV-46 for completion and provide assistance as needed. The law enforcement officer(s) in attendance will assess plate damage and complete the verification section of the form. Staff will send completed forms to PennDOT and will provide information on the next steps.   

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Please bring your current registration card, valid driver’s license and the plate to be replaced on the vehicle to which it is registered. Staff will provide the required PennDOT forms. 

Q: Is it free to replace my license plate?

A: It is free to replace standard issue and specialty-style plates with the next-in-series plate numbers. It is free to replace personalized plates.  

Q: My plate isn’t personalized, but I like my plate number; how can I keep it?

A: You can opt to “personalize” your replacement plate with your existing number for a fee:  

Ex-Prisoner of War, Disabled Veterans, Severely Disabled Veterans and Persons with Disability – $64  

Standard issue registration plate – $97 

All other registration plates – $128 

Q: Do I have a specialty plate or a personalized plate?

A: A specialty plate charges a fee for a specific registration plate style related to a special organization (see the list here). Your specialty plate will be replaced with the same style. Please note that a few specialty plates styles are no longer available, and alternatives will be offered.  

A personalized plate charges a fee to pick the number/letter configuration of your registration plate (see more information here).  

Q: Will I receive my new plate at this event?

A: No, we will submit the replacement application to PennDOT. PennDOT will send us the new plates and we will call you to coordinate pick-up at one of our district offices or mailing to your home.  

Q: What should I do with my old plate?

A: We can help you return it to PennDOT! More information will be available at the event.  

Q: What if I can’t make it to one of the events?

A: Residents unable to attend can apply for a license plate by using the PennDOT form MV-46. Once the completed form is signed by either a police officer or certified safety inspector, it can be submitted to one of Senator Rothman’s district offices for processing.
