HARRISBURG – State Sen. Greg Rothman (R-34) and Rep. Barb Gleim (R-199) announced $1,055,000 in state funding to improve safety on Spring Road in North Middleton Township. The grant funds, which will be matched by the township, will be used to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Spring Road (PA 34), Creek Road, and Cranes Gap Road.
Spring Road is the main commercial corridor for North Middleton township, connecting Interstate 81 and the Harrisburg Pike to PA 944. It is also lined with residential homes and accommodates multiple modes of transportation, including passenger vehicles, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Additionally, usage of Spring Road has increased due to residential growth in the area. The current intersection is complex and as such, there is a need to improve visibility and reduce speed for the benefit of all users. Construction of the roundabout is expected to significantly reduce accidents and improve safety on Spring Road.
“Maintaining safe and appropriate transportation infrastructure is essential,” Rothman said. “I am pleased to support North Middleton Township’s plan to improve Spring Road, which is an important artery for residents and businesses alike.”
“North Middleton has a rapidly increasing population, and this intersection is almost impossible to navigate safely with the current traffic volume. This new roundabout will greatly help manage traffic flow for everyone’s safety as the township continues to grow,” said Gleim. “It was my pleasure to work with Sen. Rothman to advocate for this funding.”
The funding was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development.
