HARRISBURG – State Sens. Mike Regan (R-31) and Greg Rothman (R-34) together with Reps. Sheryl Delozier (R-88), Torren Ecker (R-193), Barb Gleim (R-199), and Thomas Kutz (R-87) announced funding for several Cumberland County municipalities to purchase and/or upgrade equipment for municipal and emergency services as well as a non-profit social service provider.
Carlisle Borough will receive $96,500 for fire safety fleet modernization and will be used toward the purchase of a new rescue pumper.
- Shippensburg Borough will receive $96,500 for police department vehicle and equipment upgrades.
- Silver Spring Township will receive $97,549 for the purchase of public works equipment, which will be used to maintain parks, athletic fields, and other public spaces.
- Vickie’s Angel Foundation will receive $279,163 to expand its physical infrastructure so that it can meet the needs of families in nine Central Pennsylvania counties who are undergoing cancer treatment.
“Cumberland County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family,” Rothman said. “Funding for these projects will help to maintain our public spaces, keep our neighborhoods safe, and contribute to our excellent quality of life.”
Speaking about the project within his district, Rep. Ecker added, “Protecting our communities is no easy task but having the right tools helps make that job a little easier. This funding will assist with getting some of the much-needed equipment into the hands of Shippensburg’s police officers who strive each day to protect our community.”
“As our communities grow, it creates added pressure and challenges for organizations that provide emergency services,” Rep. Gleim added. “They must keep up to date on fire and safety equipment, so our first responders are prepared in an emergency,” she said. “That is why funding for a new rescue pumper truck for Carlisle Borough is so vital. It is also important to note that not only will the pumper truck serve the borough, but it will be used for many of the surrounding municipalities as well.”
Sen. Regan and Rep. Delozier spoke on Vickie’s Angel Foundation. “The Foundation is one of a kind and I’m proud that they call the 31st Senatorial District home. I applaud the Commonwealth Financing Authority for supporting this worthy project,” Regan said. “Mickey Minnich and the team at Vickie’s Angel Foundation offer assistance to needy families who are undergoing cancer treatment and are truly the ‘Beacon of Hope’ to so many people going through difficult times.”
“Vickie’s Angel Foundation, which I represent as part of the 88th Legislative District, is a critical resource for those battling cancer and their families,” said Delozier. “The award from the Local Share Account grant program will allow the organization and its incredible team to serve even more people with a larger office space and increased accessibility. I was glad to help advocate for these needed funds.”
The funding was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. State law provides for the distribution of gaming revenues from Category 4 licensed facilities through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within host counties.
