HARRISBURG – Senator Greg Rothman (R-34) voted in favor of a fiscally responsible state budget that stands up for taxpayers, doesn’t raise taxes on Pennsylvania families and encourages job growth.
PROTECTING TAXPAYERS
The approved budget agreement includes NO tax increases or irresponsible borrowing. It cut $1.1 billion from Gov. Shapiro’s original plan and prevents the raiding of the Rainy Day Fund.
“Today, I voted to prevent tax increases on working families and ensure their hard-earned dollars are protected,” Rothman said. “I firmly believe that government needs to live within its means and respect taxpayers, remembering that every dollar it spends comes from their pockets.”
CREATING JOBS AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY
This budget continues the reduction of the Corporate Net Income Tax (CNIT) rate and maintains the elimination of Pennsylvania’s Net Operating Loss (NOL) Startup Penalty, both of which have deterred business expansion and job growth for decades.
“Staying the course on tax reduction is critical to growing our economy, supporting job creation and encouraging entrepreneurship,” Rothman said.
SUPPORTING STUDENTS
The state budget also protects educational opportunities by maintaining full funding of the EITC program and increases funding for Basic and Special Education, Ready to Learn Block Grants, and Career and Technical Education.
“These funding investments will ensure our children continue to receive the high-quality education they deserve while protecting local taxpayers,” Rothman said.
REQUIRING RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT
The budget prioritizes efficiency, transparency, and accountability in state government. It claws back unused funds held by commonwealth agencies, requiring them to operate efficiently and minimize waste. The agreement also forces PennDOT to deploy existing funds that have been stagnant for improvement of roads and bridges.
“This budget reins in overspending and protects taxpayers while meeting essential needs and making critical investments,” Rothman said.
