HARRISBURG – Senator Greg Rothman (R-34) pledged to work toward a fiscally responsible budget that reins in spending following Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget address.
Shapiro’s 2026-27 $53.3 billion budget proposal would increase spending by $2.7 billion, a 5.4% increase over the current year. Additionally, the spending plan would take $4.6 billion out of the state’s emergency reserves.
“Governor Shapiro’s budget proposal spends too much and puts Pennsylvania taxpayers at risk of future tax hikes,” Rothman explained. “This approach to budgeting is unsustainable for hardworking taxpayers who foot the bill.”
“Our focus should be on creating more opportunities and good-paying jobs—not growing government,” Rothman emphasized. “Over the next several months, I am committed to working on a responsible budget that is realistic, fiscally responsible and meets the needs of our community.”
