Rothman, Stambaugh Announce Funding for Veterans Memorial Park Improvements

HARRISBURG – State Sen. Greg Rothman (R-34) and Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-86) announced the approval of state assistance for improvements to Veterans Memorial Park, located in Newport Borough, Perry County.

The Borough will receive $77,418 to install walkways within the park, making all attractions more accessible to visitors, especially those using wheelchairs, motorized scooters, and strollers.

“Our parks bring communities together, foster wellness through recreation, and help to cultivate appreciation of our natural resources,” Rothman said. “I am pleased that these funds will be used to increase the accessibility–and ultimately the use–of Veterans Memorial Park.”

“Making Veterans Memorial Park more user-friendly benefits everyone, young and old, who enjoys coming to the grounds for outdoor and community activities,” added Stambaugh.

The funding was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development, through its Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program.
