A number of materials for sportsmen are available in our district offices. Pennsylvania Firearm Laws, Personal Firearms Inventory record-keeping booklets, maps showing firearms reciprocity agreements across the country and more can be picked up during normal business hours. Additional resources are available online:

We’d be happy to provide any of the above and look forward to seeing you.

Retirees May Be Eligible for Reduced-Cost Vehicle Registration

Retirees meeting certain income requirements may be eligible to register a passenger vehicle by paying a $12 processing fee instead of the normal $48 registration fee.

Eligible applicants, regardless of age, must be retired and receiving Social Security, SSI payments, retirement benefits or other pensions and annuities. Find details about what is included in the income calculations here.

The vehicle may be owned jointly, but the applicant must be the principal operator of the vehicle unless physically or mentally incapable of operating the vehicle. Only one vehicle per qualified applicant may be registered for the retired status processing fee. Learn more at PennDOT’s online services webpage.

Of course, our office would be happy to submit the required form–as well as any others you may need to send–to PennDOT on your behalf. Just stop by any of our district office locations and we’ll take it from there!

Local Historian Recognized for Civic Contributions

Sen. Rothman presents Christine Musser with a PA Senate citation, honoring her as a Pennsylvania Window Keeper award recipient.

I was proud to recognize Christine Musser upon being named one of Pennsylvania’s Window Keepers by PA Humanities. Established as part of the nation’s 250th and inspired by poet Yolanda Wisher’s “The Window Keeper,” the honor is bestowed upon community leaders who strengthen civic life, preserve history, bring people together and are making a lasting impact.

Christine has done exactly that. We’re grateful for her knowledge of and passion for our local history. Congratulations, again, Christine!

Perry County Students Study Soil Management in the Field

Perry County high school students study water and soil quality during the Conservation District’s 2026 Land Judging Competition.

This week, students from all four Perry County School districts participated in the Perry County Conservation District’s Annual Land Judging Competition held at Martz Farms in Duncannon. The contest introduces high school students to soil evaluation and its relationship to land use as well as soil and water quality.

Teams rotated through stations where they assessed soil samples, interpreted land use impacts, and answered questions about soil and water quality. The Conservation District’s field office staff was on hand to explain soil management practices and their role in successful farming. The weather was perfect and everyone seemed to have a great time!

Honoring All Veterans

We set aside Veterans Day to acknowledge and celebrate all who have served and sacrificed to defend the freedoms we hold dear. Those who have answered the call to serve in our armed forces deserve our deepest gratitude.

Our area is blessed to be home to many who have worn our nation’s uniform and many who are still serving. Their leadership, experiences, and character help to shape our community. We live and work among heroes! I hope we can all find ways to thank them for their selflessness this week and throughout the year.
