Camp Hill Students Host Legislative Q & A

Photo collage of Sen. Rothman with students from Camp Hill High School.

After receiving email from students in Mr. Tubbs’ Civics class at Camp Hill High School, we decided it may be most productive to discuss the issues in person!

This week, I was glad to take students’ questions with Rep. Nate Davidson and hear everyone’s perspective. Thanks to the students for being so engaged, impressive, and asking such thoughtful (and tough!) questions! Thanks to Mr. Tubbs, Mr. Hulsizer, the school board and administration for helping to bring this town hall to fruition and for joining the conversation.

Capital Goods Café Delivers Coffee, Opportunity and Independence

The Capitol Goods Café is part of the Capital Area Intermediate Unit’s Future Ready Work Immersion Program. It provides a comprehensive approach to preparing young adults with disabilities for meaningful and productive adult lives. By incorporating employment, independent living, community inclusion, and post-secondary education/training, the program takes a holistic approach to prepare individuals with disabilities to lead rich and fulfilling lives.

I was excited to visit the Café and meet the team today. My experience as a customer was outstanding, as was my specialty drink and lunch. The students in all positions were highly attentive, warm, and professional. Shalai was especially impressive as she took my order and handled my transaction; her smile lit up the room!

It was especially wonderful to hear about graduates’ long-term success.  Nearly all go on to secure competitive, integrated employment in their communities, doing jobs they love! The program, its students, and outcomes are truly exceptional. Keep up the great work!

Retirees May Be Eligible for Reduced-Cost Vehicle Registration

elderly persons hands on a steering wheel in a vehicle.

Retirees meeting certain income requirements may be eligible to register a passenger vehicle by paying an $12 processing fee instead of the normal $48 registration fee.

Eligible applicants, regardless of age, must be retired and receiving Social Security, SSI payments, retirement benefits or other pensions and annuities. Find details about what is included in the income calculations here.

The vehicle may be owned jointly, but the applicant must be the principal operator of the vehicle unless physically or mentally incapable of operating the vehicle. Only one vehicle per qualified applicant may be registered for the retired status processing fee. Learn more at PennDOT’s online services webpage.

Of course, our office would be happy to submit the required form–as well as any others you may need to send–to PennDOT on your behalf. Just stop by any of our district office locations and we’ll take it from there!

Senate Acts to Protect Fairness in Women’s Sports

Two smiling female swimmers in a pool give a high-five at the end of a swim meet.

The Senate again approved legislation to protect the safety and opportunities of female athletes by requiring scholastic sports teams to be designated based on biological sex.

Senate Bill 1293 would require public schools and colleges to label sports teams as male, female or coed. The legislation states only biological females can join teams designated for women. The bill would also allow students to take legal action if they are harmed by violations of this rule.

Since 2020 in Pennsylvania, men have stolen first place from female athletes 87 times and unjustly took second or third place 64 times. Recently, the International Olympic Committee enacted new policy guidelines ensuring all sporting events under their jurisdiction for any female category are limited to biological females only.

The legislation is similar to Senate Bill 9, which was passed by the Senate in May 2025 with bipartisan support. Since then, it has been delayed by procedural maneuvers in the House of Representatives, leaving young female athletes at risk. I urge the House to act on this legislation and restore fairness to athletic competition in our commonwealth. Read more about this issue here.
