In this Update:
Christmas at the CapitolThis year’s Capitol Christmas tree is a 25-foot Douglas Fir. It’s illuminated by 2,440 LED lights and features more than 1,700 handmade ornaments created by children and seniors from across the Commonwealth. Special thanks to the Central Perry Senior Citizens’ Center, the Duncannon Senior Citizens’ Center, and the Carlisle Senior Action Center for helping to craft many of this year’s ornaments! The tree is stunning! If you’d like to see it in person, the tree in the Rotunda will be lit daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Jan. 8. An additional tree, located outdoors on the Capitol steps, will be lit daily from 5 p.m. to midnight, also through Jan. 8. Liberty Bell Placed in Cumberland CountyThis week, Cumberland County unveiled its specially commissioned Liberty Bell, which is part of the Bells Across PA project by America250PA! The bell, featuring artwork by lifelong Cumberland Countian Phil George, is truly remarkable! He did a wonderful job capturing our rich history, landmarks, nature, wildlife, and agriculture. Carlisle Area School District students designed and built the custom base for the bell and the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation stepped-up to sponsor. Stop by and see it in Veterans’ Square, next to the old courthouse on the corner of South Hanover & West High Streets in Carlisle. I have the honor of serving as an America250PA Commissioner and I could not be more excited about the Bells Across PA project. It highlights the role our commonwealth had on the nation’s founding and the role Pennsylvanians have on its past, present, and future. By the time we officially celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding next year, each of PA’s 67 counties is expected to have an original bell that features unique landmarks, nature, culture, and contributions to the commonwealth. Learn more about the Bells Across PA project here. Lykens Honors Longtime Public ServantThis week, we were glad to celebrate a remarkable public servant. Celin Sitlinger officially retired from Lykens Township, Dauphin County after more than SIXTY years of dedicated service as Roadmaster! It was an honor to sponsor a PA Senate citation recognizing his exceptional commitment to the safety and wellbeing of the community. College Scholarships Available to Class of 2026
