Government that Works for YOU

Taxpayers rightfully expect state government to operate efficiently and remove barriers to economic opportunity. I agree, which is why this year, the Senate passed legislation to implement stricter oversight of regulations that will cost employers or taxpayers more than $1 million, and require automatic review of these kinds of regulations after three years to ensure they remain in the public interest.

Taxpayers also rightfully expect state government to prevent the misuse of their hard-earned dollars through waste and fraud. Other bills recently passed by the Senate require the Department of Human Services to prevent fraud in public assistance, prevent dead people from receiving benefits and ensure unemployment compensation benefits don’t go to claimants who try to avoid work. To reduce the risk of data breaches in taxpayer-funded systems, we passed legislation requiring all state IT contracts to meet national cybersecurity standards.

You can review other notable bills we’ve passed in 2025 here.

National Crime Prevention Week

National Crime Prevention Week is a reminder of the role we all play in keeping our neighborhoods safe. The National Crime Prevention Council offers these crime prevention and personal safety tips to help you and your community outsmart potential lawbreakers.

This week is also a great reminder to appreciate and support those in law enforcement who work tirelessly every day to fight crime and keep us safe. This week, thank a police officer for their bravery, commitment and service to our community.

Help for Caregivers: PA CareKit

Caring for a loved one is a selfless act that can strengthen family bonds. Such responsibilities are not without challenges. The PA CareKit can be a great resource.

From the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the PA CareKit is a collection of tools and information to help those in caregiver roles manage stress, navigate the health care system, stay connected and find support.

Topics include the First Five Steps, Understanding Your Needs, Key Caregiving Terms and Concepts, and Caregiving Resources. If you’re a caregiver, I hope you find this information to be useful. Please know that my office is available to offer support as well. We frequently provide assistance working with commonwealth agencies, programs, benefits, and service providers.  We’d be happy to help you!

Thanks to our Summer Interns

We were very fortunate to have two outstanding interns working with us this summer! Brayden is from the Carlisle area and is now beginning his sophomore year at William and Mary College. Sophia is from Duncannon and is starting her junior year at Grove City College.

During their time with us, both helped with a wide variety of duties, from answering phones to tracking legislation, and documenting constituent feedback to staffing special events as well as supporting committee meetings and more.

Sophia and Brayden both brought exceptional professionalism, attention to detail, and thoughtfulness to every aspect of their work. Both are impressive and will surely go on to do great things in college and beyond.

I hope they enjoyed their experience as much as we enjoyed working with them. We wish them the very best!
