Avoid Scams with Resources Provided at Perry County Event

Unfortunately, scammers have gotten more sophisticated and effective over time. Learn about their latest tricks and how to avoid them at a fun and educational event June 6th in Duncannon. PA Banking and Securities will provide valuable information to protect against scams and prevent fraud. I’m glad to join with Rep. Stambaugh and the Perry County Area Agency on Aging to support $camJam. I hope you can make it!

Bill to Encourage Volunteer Firefighting Receives Senate Support

Pennsylvania relies on volunteer firefighters, but their numbers are dropping – from 300,000 in the 1970s to fewer than 38,000 today. To help ensure there are enough firefighters to respond to a crisis, the Senate passed a bill that would reform the process for people earning their firefighter certification.

Senate Bill 90 would maintain the high standards to become a firefighter while making it more manageable for men and women who are interested in serving their communities as volunteer firefighters. Currently, firefighter applicants must complete four training modules totaling 188 hours. They then must pass a cumulative test covering all four modules. The bill would allow them to be tested following each of the four modules.

Senate Bill 90 heads to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

2025-2026 Migratory Game Bird Seasons Set

Pennsylvania’s 2025-26 migratory game bird seasons have been set, with two significant changes to waterfowl seasons. The regular season daily bag limit for Canada geese in the Atlantic Population Zone has decreased from three to one, and for northern pintail, there will be a flat daily bag limit of three. Other migratory game bird seasons are similar to last year’s seasons.

Annual migratory game bird seasons are selected by states from frameworks established by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Game Commission selections were made after reviewing last year’s hunter harvests, population survey data and public input.  View all season details here.

Plan Ahead, Avoid Delays this PennDOT Construction Season

As the weather improves, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is spending more time maintaining the state’s approximately 40,000 roadway miles and 25,400 bridges.

You can be aware of and plan for delays you experience driving by checking the status of construction projects in your area. Information about projects underway, beginning and being bid this year is listed here.

Road work projects are chosen through an extended planning process in four-year and 12-year increments. Learn more about the State Transportation Improvement Plan and the Twelve Year Program.

Beware of Counterfeit Weight Loss and Diabetes Drugs

Attorney General Dave Sunday issued a warning to Pennsylvanians: those who purchase GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, which are typically used for weight loss and diabetes, anywhere other than a licensed pharmacy, could be buying counterfeit products.

As supplies have not kept pace with overwhelming consumer demand, a counterfeit market has emerged for these drugs. Using counterfeit products is dangerous.

Attorney General Sunday is urging consumers to report suspicious products by calling the Drugs Tip Line at 800-442-8006. Read more.

Enjoy a Great American Getaway in PA

Tourism is an important part of Pennsylvania’s economy. In 2022, the most recent year with available data, we welcomed more than 192 million travelers and benefited from $45 billion in visitor spending.

The commonwealth has a lot to offer, even to people who call it home. Find some great ideas for vacations and day trips here.

Remembering our Heroes

I was thankful for the opportunity to participate in Memorial Day ceremonies in Ickesburg, East Pennsboro, Millersburg, and Elizabethville this past weekend. Each was deeply meaningful, reflecting on the cost of our freedom. We acknowledged the ultimate sacrifices made by service members, described perfectly by a chaplain at one of the services as “the guardians of our inalienable rights.” Indeed, they are.  We must always remember these heroes and the values for which they fought. Today and every day, I remain humbled and grateful.

Winding Creek Students Visit the Capitol

This week, I was glad to welcome several groups of students from Winding Creek Elementary to the Capitol. Everyone with whom I had the pleasure of speaking was engaged and interested in learning more about legislative service. I enjoyed answering their questions and posing my own to them. I hope all four classes enjoyed the tour!
