Mentored Youth Fish for Free This Saturday
This Saturday, anglers age 15 and under can fish stocked waterways for free. It’s a great opportunity for our youth to learn fishing skills before crowds arrive for the statewide opening day of trout season next week. Youth anglers must obtain a current year Mentored Youth Permit, issued at no cost, OR a Voluntary Youth Fishing License from the Commission and be accompanied by a licensed adult angler in order to participate. Learn more here. Locate stocked waterways here. Senate Acts to Protect Workers’ Compensation for First Responders
The Senate approved legislation to ensure volunteer fire and EMS personnel are covered by workers’ compensation if injured participating in municipally-authorized activities. Current law does not provide protections for first responders engaged in fundraising to cover the cost of providing public safety services. Senate Bill 1053 would expressly provide workers’ compensation for volunteers’ participation in essential activities. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Area Students Emphasize Impact of Agricultural EducationThe Pennsylvania FFA Legislative Breakfast is something I look forward to each year. I appreciate the opportunity to hear from industry leaders and connect with FFA members from across the district. The impact of agricultural education on students, communities, and Pennsylvania’s workforce is incredible! Thanks to West Perry, Greenwood, Newport and Cumberland Valley FFA for sharing their time and perspectives with me! Wildcat Marching Band Recognized at the CapitolI was honored to host the National Champion, Halifax Area School District Marching Band at the Capitol this week! Not only did these talented performers win the 2025 USBands National Championship in their division, they received the “Best Music” award at nationals as well! It was a pleasure to celebrate their accomplishments. Congratulations, again, to Band Director David Eagleson, each of these outstanding musicians, and their families! Interested in Law Enforcement? Check Out This State Police Program
If you are thinking about a future in law enforcement, consider participating in the Pennsylvania State Police Law and Leadership Academy, which offers a 15-week program to experience the process of becoming a cadet. Applicants age 18 and over with a high school diploma or GED can apply. The program covers:
The program runs from early May to early August at six locations statewide. Cadets meet twice a week, with occasional Saturday sessions. You can learn more here. Free Smoke Alarms for Those In Need
Home fires claim seven lives every day, but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half. The Red Cross recommends testing alarms monthly and practicing a 2-minute fire escape drill to increase preparedness. Should you or anyone you know need help purchasing or physically installing a smoke alarm, contact the Red Cross here. Their “Sound the Alarm” program may be able to assist! Around the DistrictI was pleased to join my friends at Asian Indian Americans of Central Pennsylvania in welcoming both India’s Consul General, Amb. Binaya Srikanta Pradhan and Pennsylvania Auditor General Tim DeFoor this week. I appreciated hearing about the resources and service provided by both offices. It was great catching up with so many community leaders! Our volunteer first responders provide invaluable service to our communities and sacrifice a great deal to do so. This week, I had the pleasure of attending Liverpool Fire and Rescue’s Recognition Dinner. I’m thankful for the opportunity to help acknowledge the dedication, expertise, and selflessness of this year’s honorees and all who serve. Congratulations to John Goodling on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! John has served Troop 561 in Marysville as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and currently serves as bugler. His service project involved designing and leading the construction of massive storage units in his high school’s band room, which will be used for generations. I was glad to join John’s family, friends, fellow scouts and Rep. Stambaugh for John’s Court of Honor this week, in celebration of his many accomplishments.
