At a time when families continue to feel the strain of inflation, state government must look for ways to increase affordability. The Senate took significant steps in 2026 to make life more affordable; Passing a state budget that respects taxpayers and takes less of your hard-earned money, enacting new tax credit programs for working families, lowering energy bills, and making homes more attainable for all. The new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit provides meaningful relief for working families across the commonwealth. Families that claim the federal Earned Income Tax Credit may also claim the state tax credit equal to 10% of the federal amount. This amounts to hundreds of dollars saved every year for many working families. Also new is the Employer Child Care Contribution Tax Credit Program, which provides incentives for businesses to make contributions of up to $500 annually toward their employees’ child-care costs. To make attainable housing a reality for more Pennsylvanians, we passed a series of reforms designed to increase housing supply, lower the cost of housing, and reduce unnecessary delays in the permitting process, saving time and money. These measures support smart, sustainable growth across Pennsylvania while ensuring communities maintain a voice in how they grow. We also successfully fought to make energy more affordable by eliminating the $1.2 billion tax brought on by the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). RGGI would have tied Pennsylvania to other states that have already chosen to institute this tax on electricity, raising already-high energy bills for every Pennsylvanian. By removing Pennsylvania from the deeply flawed agreement, we prevented burdensome energy taxes from being passed on to families and businesses in the commonwealth. Additionally, the Senate voted to eliminate the gross receipts tax on electric bills and require utility companies to pass the reduction on to consumers, which would save ratepayers more than $1.7 billion over the first year. We’re committed to continuing to address affordability for families throughout Pennsylvania. New Law Cracks Down on Robocalls, Scam Texts and Caller ID Spoofing
Legislation we unanimously passed enacting stronger protections from deceptive telemarketing practices will take effect Monday, Oct. 19. Under Act 47 of 2026, Pennsylvania’s telemarketing law will now cover modern forms of solicitation, including text messages, voicemails, ringless voicemails and robocalls. It also establishes stronger rules for when and how telemarketers can contact Pennsylvanians, including:
The legislation also prohibits the use of AI-generated messages to deceive consumers. Key Election Dates to Remember
Election Day is quickly approaching! Our offices have been receiving calls about related deadlines and processes, so I wanted to share the following key dates and resources.
To make sure you’re registered, learn how to request an absentee ballot and find your polling place, visit the state’s elections information webpage. Landisburg Volunteer Fire Receives New Equipment for Training, Station Operations
It’s always an honor to spend time with our volunteer firefighters. I appreciated the invitation to see Landisburg Volunteer Fire Company’s new roof simulator, which will allow them to train safely and secure national FF1 certification, as well as the station’s new back-up generator. I was glad to help secure grant funding for this new equipment and am always working to support their efforts. We are fortunate to have such dedicated, skilled firefighters responding in times of need. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 24
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, most people who use prescription medication for a nonmedical purpose obtained that medication from a family member or friend. Removing unnecessary medications from the home can help remove this risk. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs. Find a local collection site near you at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration website. Understanding Metastatic Breast Cancer
Metastatic breast cancer, also known as Stage IV breast cancer, is diagnosed when breast cancer has spread to other parts of the body. While treatments can help control metastatic cancer and allow many people to live longer, Stage IV breast cancer is currently considered incurable. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s recognize the Pennsylvanians living with metastatic breast cancer every day. Organizations like the PA Breast Cancer Coalition offer programs specific to individuals with metastatic breast cancer including a Stage IV-specific care package program and patient resources. For more information, visit the PA Breast Cancer Coalition website. Around the District: CV, Halifax, East Pennsboro, Elliottsburg and Camp Hill
I was glad to participate in the Cumberland Valley homecoming tailgate festivities hosted by the Community Rec Foundation. The event was full of Eagle spirit and the turnout was incredible! Between the live music, games, activities, food, and demos, there was something for everyone. Thanks to all involved in planning this wonderful night for the community!
It was great to catch up with longtime friends at the Halifax homecoming game with Newport! I was honored to help with the coin toss, meet the homecoming court and spend the evening with truly wonderful people. The school spirit and hospitality were incredible! The Pennsboro Pumpkin Fest is one of my favorite events each year. While the weather was less than cooperative for Sunday, Saturday was great! I enjoyed visiting with constituents at our booth and taking in all of the sights, sounds, and activities that the festival offers. I couldn’t miss the delicious chicken corn soup from Boy Scout Troop 89! The Perry County Area Agency on Aging Fall Festival was so much fun! I enjoyed the opportunity to join seniors from across Perry County, visit with friends and see everyone enjoying a few rounds of bingo. Thanks to the PCAAA for bringing our community together in Elliottsburg! I appreciated the invitation to join the West Shore Rotary Club for their meeting this week in Camp Hill. It was a pleasure to hear from members, provide a legislative update and share a meal together. |
